Jon Kahl is answering visitors questions this month on our Scientist on the Spot feature. He specializes in studying weather and might have some interesting insight into these sorts of questions. As a matter of fact (I just looked) he weighs in on this very question: It seems like winters in the midwest are getting milder - both warmer and less snow. Is that something that is backed up by any data or is it just perception and things are about the same as they usually are?

It has gotten warmer; but how warm would it be if there wasn't global warming?

The length of a human lifetime is insignificant when .compared to the length of time our planet has had an atmosphere. Our observations from day to day, year to year do not mean a thing with regard to weather patterns

I voted this way because I have been in colder winters and I know that in the years 2008-2012 we are suppose to have the next four winters like the 1858.

Bailey Cram writes we have had colder winters and I am willing to spend the next four years living in the coldest winters of my life.

Memories are tricky things. One might remember a cold/warm winter because it has personal significance. It would be fun to have an exhibit on memory and events....maybe in the CSI section?

i think that the weather is getting colder but it does not matter cause i think that when you are younger you dont really relize the cold you just want to have fun

We've been in Minnesota for three and a half years now, and the winters are plenty cold. Last year was noticeably colder than the previous two. Sunspot activity (the lack of them) indicates this winter may be a cold one too.

Winter is much warmer than it probably was 50 years ago. Of course, that doesn't mean that it's noticeable. It might be a bit colder theis year than the year before, or warmer than the past year. Global warming is a big issue that I believe shouldn't be ignored. =)
